MACHINE SETUP
1. Adjust the Backrest Angle
Select one of the 4 available angles (25°–40°).Coaching tip:
- Lower angles = more hip flexion → more glute/hamstring recruitment
- Higher angles = more knee flexion → more quadriceps emphasis
2. Set the Range of Motion Limiter (if needed)
Choose from the 5 depth positions.Use this when coaching:
- beginners learning depth control
- athletes returning from knee/hip issues
- in‑season athletes protecting joint stress
3. Load the Machine
Add plates evenly on both loading horns.Balance is critical for consistent tracking and avoiding torsion on the guide rails.
4. Footplate Position
Seat the athlete and place feet:- shoulder‑width apart
- toes slightly turned out (5–15°)
- mid‑foot on the plate, not too high or low
MOVEMENT EXECUTION
1. Grab the Side Handles
Keeps hips down and spine stable.2. Press Slightly to Clear the Safeties
Extend legs just enough so the pre‑start lever can disengage.3. Hold a Neutral Spine
Pelvis stays anchored to the backrest. No posterior pelvic tilt ("butt wink").
4. Descent
- Inhale
- Bend knees and hips together
- Lower with control along the linear path
- Keep heels fully in contact
- Stop when thighs reach ~90° or your programmed ROM limiter
- “Control the descent.”
- “Keep knees tracking forward, not inward.”
- “Hips stay glued to the pad.”
5. Press
- Drive through full foot
- Push the platform away in a straight line
- Exhale during the effort
- Avoid locking out aggressively; finish with soft knee extension
- “Push through mid‑foot.”
- “Extend without snapping the knees.”
- “Stay braced through the core.”
COMMON MISTAKES AND CORRECTIONS
Heels lifting off
Fix: Move feet slightly higher on the plate; cue “drive through the whole foot.”Knees collapsing inward (valgus)
Fix: Narrow stance, reduce load, cue “push the knees out into your feet.”Excessive lumbar flexion
Fix: Reduce ROM limiter depth; keep backrest angle higher.Hyperextending at the top
Fix: Cue “finish tall, not locked.”Using the hands to pull the body forward
Fix: Hands stabilize only. Cue “let the legs do the work.”Available upon request
